Jonah and Timeless

Left Coast Live is pleased to present Jonah and Timeless, an evening of R&B, soul, and funk.  The music’s hot, the lyrics are cool.   According to an article in the San Jose Mercury News, 29-year-old Milpitas waiter and musician Jonah got his big break in 2007 when his song about tipping fairly became an online phenomenon and a national anthem for service staff.

While others are tending tables as they wait for their big break, Jonah made his job his opportunity. The 29-year-old Milpitas waiter created a song about tipping fairly, which became an online phenomenon and a national anthem for service staff.

This led to an online reality series that profiled Jonah, whose given name is Johnny Johnson, on his quest for fame, supported by the restaurant he works at, Chili’s. Since the launch of the series on LiveVideo.com in mid-April, the first two episodes have exceeded 12,000 hits.
“Soon as I get any door that is halfway open, I am going to put my foot in the door until I get my whole body into it,” Jonah says.
The way he has gotten in so far is a story of hustle. The word people use when describing Jonah is “driven.”

“He’s driven, he’s focused, he knows what he wants and he’s constantly working it,” says Kelli Usher, executive producer at the Cannery, a California entertainment marketing firm that works with Warner Bros. “He’s so genuine. … He is a record label marketing person’s dream.”
Warner Bros. produced Jonah’s online series – the upshot of Jonah’s relentless get-up-and-go in establishing his music career. When Jonah couldn’t make ends meet just by performing at San Jose clubs, he started working at Chili’s in Milpitas. He wrote songs about his financial scramble: “Broke,” “Coupon Man,” and “Slow Car.”   “Writing about it was sort of my therapy,” he says.
